Gabriel Ghazanchyan

Inventor of hair dryer

Gabriel M. Kazanjian, an American-Armenian inventor, creator of hair dryer, was born in 1858.

In 1911, Gabriel Ghazanchian received the first US patent for a hand hair dryer, and in the 1920s, early portable metal models appeared on the market.

At first, Ghazanchian’s hair dryer was a slow-moving, heavy device (weighing about two pounds , about 1 kg), prone to overheating, and prone to electrocution. In the years 1911-1920, many inventors worked with Ghazanchyan to improve the appearance of the hair dryer prototype, after which the device entered first the American and then the world market.
